DEFINITION & HISTORY OF YOGA

Yoga is a set of Physical, Mental & Spiritual applications or disciplines that originated in ancient India. Yoga is one of the six Astika (orthodox)schools of Indian philosophical traditions.There is anextensive variety of yoga schools, practices,& goals in Hinduism, Buddhism & Jainism. ‘Yoga’ in the Western world often signifies a modern form of Hatha Yoga & Yogaas exercise, involving chiefly Postures, Posesor Asanas.

The practice of Yoga has been thought to date back to Pre-Vedic Indian Traditions; possibly in the Indus valley civilization around 3000 BCE. Yoga is cited in Rigveda & also in the Upanishads, though it chieflyevolved as a systematic study around the 5th & 6th centuries BCE, in ancient India's ascetic & Srama?a movements. The chronology of the earliest texts describing Yoga-practices is blurred, distinctly attributed to the Upanishads. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali date from the 2nd century BCE,& gained prominence in the west in the 20th century after being first introduced by Swami Vivekananda. Hatha Yoga texts began to emerge sometime between the 9th & 11th century with origins in tantra.

TYPES OF YOGA
Modern Yoga has progressed with anemphasis on Exercise, Strength, Flexibility & Breathing. It can help increase Physical & Mental health.There are many kinds of Yoga & none of them is in any scenario superior to others. The significant point is to choose one that goes hand-in-hand with your fitness goals. The Types or kinds of Yoga may be as follows:

  • Ashtanga Yoga: This type of Yoga brings forth ancient Yoga teachings. Though, it became prevalentamid the 1970s. This Yoga applies to six recognized postures that swiftly connect every movement to breathe.
     
  • Bikram Yoga: It is alsorecognized as ‘HOT’ Yoga, itarises in artificially heated rooms at temperatures of approximately 105 degrees & 40 percent humidity. It involves 26 poses &  order of two breathing exercises.
     
  • Hatha Yoga:This is a general term for any type of Yoga that clarifies physical postures. ‘Hatha’lessonstypically serve as a moderate overview of the basic Yoga postures.
     
  • Iyengar Yoga: It focuses on finding the precise arrangement in each posture using a variety of props, such as Blocks, Blankets, Straps, Chairs & Bolsters.
     
  • Jivamukti Yoga:Jivamukti means ‘Liberation While Living’This kind of Yoga emerged in 1984 & includes spiritual teachings & practices that emphasis on the fast-paced movement between postures rather than the postures themselves.This focus is called Vinyasa. Each class carryforwards a theme, which is explored through Yoga Scripture, Chanting, Meditation, Asana, Pranayama & Music. Jivamukti Yoga can be physically intense.
     
  • Kripalu Yoga: It teaches practitioners to know, accept & learn from the body. A student of Kripalu learns to find their level of practice by looking into their inner self. The lessons usually begin with breathing exercises & gentle stretches, followed by a series of specific poses & final relaxation.
     
  • Kundalini Yoga:Kundalini means ‘Coiled Like A Snake’Kundalini Yoga is anarrangement of meditation that intends to release pent-up energy.A sessionnaturally begins with chanting & ends with singing. Amid, it features Asana, Pranayama & Meditation tailored to generate a definite outcome.
     
  • Power Yoga: In the late 1980s, practitioners settled this active & athletic type of Yoga, created on the traditional Ashtanga System.
     
  • Prenatal Yoga: Prenatal Yoga involves postures that practitioners have designed for people who are pregnant. It can be beneficial in getting back into shape post-pregnancy as well as maintaining health amid pregnancy.
     
  • Restorative Yoga: This is a relaxing way of Yoga. A person employs a restorative Yoga class in four or five simple postures, via props like blankets & bolsters to go into deep relaxation without exerting any effort in holding the pose.
     
  • Sivananda:This is a system based on a Five-Point Philosophy. This philosophy maintains that proper Breathing, Relaxation, Diet, Exercise & Positive Thinking work collectively to form a healthy yogic lifestyle. Generally, it uses the same 12 basic asanas, bookended by sun salutations & savasana poses.
     
  • ViniYoga:ViniYoga can familiarize any person, irrespective of their physical ability. ViniYoga teachers need in-depth training&tend to be specialistsin anatomy& Yoga therapy.
     
  • Yin:This is a Quiet, Meditative Yoga Practice, also termedTaoist Yoga. Yin Yoga permits the release of tension in key joints, including:

  6. Shoulders

Yoga is a great way to work on flexibility & strength. Anyone can do it & it's not just for people who can touch their toes or want to meditate.Several types of Yoga are about relaxation. In others, you move more. They also usually include attention to breathing.Most kinds of Yogas focus on learning poses, called asanas. Several benefits of Yogas are as follows:

Enhances Flexibility: Yoga poses work by stretching your muscles. They can help you move better&feel less stiff or tired.At any level of Yoga, you'll probably start to notice benefits soon. In one study, people improved their flexibility by up to 35% after only 8 weeks of Yoga.

Improve Strength:Some kinds of Yoga, such as ashtanga & power Yoga, are very physical. Practising one of these styles will help you improve muscle tone.But less intenseforms of Yoga, such as Iyengar Yoga or Hatha Yoga, can deliver strength & endurance.
Several postures, likethe Downward Dog, Upward Dog & Plank Posture, enhance upper-body strength. The stand-up poses, especially if one holds them for long breaths, may enhance strength in the Hamstrings, Quadriceps & Abs. Postures that toughen the lower back involve upward dog & the chair pose.When done right, approximately all postures build core strength in the deep abdominal muscles.
